ISTEP Prep

ISTEP is quickly approaching. We will be testing March 1st through March 4th, and plan on using Friday for any make up testing that needs to be done due to absences and/or delays.

Next week, the focus will be preparing the students for ISTEP. They need to be reminded and get used to what "test format" looks like.

In reading we will spend time focusing on literature response where students will read a passage and respond to the questions asked. We will then confer about their answers looking for places where they can add more detail or be more specific.

In writing we will be reviewing prompt writing as well as the importance of revising and editing. They will be writing to specific prompts (from previous ISTEPs) and then asked to go back and revise and edit.

Math will be a combination of Rocket Math, Minute Math, and some problem solving. Students will be working on previous ISTEP problems both in the classroom and at home as homework. It is important for the students to realize the most often the problems are multi-step and that they MUST show every bit of their work.

Word Study will consist of lots of work with words (go figure!) We will be reviewing and working with homophones, homonyms, homographs, similes, metaphors, reference materials (thesauruses, encyclopedias, and dictionaries), and prefixes and suffixes. There will be no spelling words or packets to work on next week as homework. Spelling words we will start up again the following week.

They will continue to go to Mrs. Waldron for science on Tuesday and Thursday next week. We will take a break from IN History next Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and work on some ISTEP prep stuff for the science portion on ISTEP. This works out perfectly as we are concluding chapter 7 and taking the test tomorrow (Friday, February 19).
