Football Friday

Well the Super Bowl is coming and everyone is talking about it this week at school. We have Colts fans, and we have Saints fans. Should be a great game and a fun weekend!

We have decided to have "Football Friday" to celebrate the Colts making it to the Super Bowl. Some activities for the day will include:

1. We will begin our day with writing workshop focusing on poetry. Reviewing skills and terms such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme, along with metaphors will help us write our football themed poems.
2. In reading workshop we will spend some time locating answers within text....a great test taking strategy to practice. They will be reading articles about the history of football along with the history of the Colts.
3. In word study they will have a little fun completing crossword puzzles and a wordsearch. They will also practice some dictionary skills as they look up football terms. 
4. Math will be fun! Each student is going to have to figure out how much it would cost their family to attend the Super Bowl this year. They must consider: hotel, airfare, car rental, tickets, and food. I have done research via the Internet to see how much tickets, hotels, and airfare are costing for this weekend. 
5. We will end our day with a little pre-game tailgate party. I will provide blue milk and blue/white sprinkled donuts. If you would like to donate or send in any additional snacks or treats for the party, please feel free to do so!
