Fort Settlers

We had a great time Thursday afternoon when the Settlers came to visit. Each classroom was set up with a different "speciality" area. The ladies who came were fabulous, and had many stories to tell along with great hands on activities. There is no doubt the kids learned a lot and had a great time!!

In our classroom we learned a lot. Mrs. Huge brought stories to life and helped the students visualize the hard trip pioneers had to take to get to Indiana. She also explained how they had to churn their own butter....which the students got to try!!

Next, we traveled to Mrs. Waldron's room where we got to make our own candle sticks!


We then had the opportunity to listen to a great duo. These ladies were hilarious! They taught us all about music and how it played an important role in the life of pioneers.

Last, we circled around to Mrs. Powers' room where the students participated in a paper craft that even the boys enjoyed!

Ag Day

Our field trip to the Bluffton 4H Park was a success. It rained off and on, but nothing we couldn't deal with. The field trip consisted of six stations which the students visited. They included: water safety, soy bean information, dairy, livestock, technology, and ATV safety. The trip was very well organized and very informational. Did you know that Wells County is number four in Indiana for chicken/egg production? Wells County has over 900,000 chickens and produces near 50 million eggs a year! We also got to see a one day old calf....the kids couldn't believe how big it actually was for being not even 24 hours old.

We arrived a little early, so they got to enjoy some free time on the playground equipment nearby.....who would have thought a bunch of 4th graders would have had so much fun on a slide and merry-go-round?!!?

ISTEP Snacks Needed (Last time!!)

ISTEP is again rapidly approaching. We will begin testing Monday, April 26th. If you would be willing to send in some snacks for the kids please let me know so I can put you down for a day!

Thank you for the snacks last time....they were perfect! We enjoyed granola bars, cheese crackers, string cheese and crackers, pretzels and juice.....it was perfect!!

Mrs. Elzey Isn't Going Far...

I can't believe how quickly the end of the year is approaching. I hear kids talking about baseball practices and how busy they are each night and that is when I know spring has started! Mrs. Elzey has been a great addition to our classroom. The kids really enjoy her just as much as she enjoys them. Her last day of student teaching is April 30th.

Some of you have asked about my daughter and how she has been doing. For those of you who don't know, she was born with a heart defect. The doctors now have determined that now would be a good time for surgery. This sugery is scheduled for the end of May. Luckily for us, Mrs. Elzey will be able to return and pick right up where I leave off.

My last day this year will be April 18th. (So I will only miss the last 8 days.) This is also Young Author's Day (what a fun last day!) Mrs. Elzey will then take over on May 19th, the same day as our Indy field trip (what a great first day!) through the end of the year (May 28th).
